Long-Term Substitute: AP Science Teacher
Lake Ridge Academy is seeking a long-term substitute teacher to teach one section of AP Biology and one section of AP Environmental Science in the Upper School. The position will begin as soon as possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Build respectful, supportive, and learning-focused relationships with students
- Plan and deliver high-quality, intentional instruction aligned with the AP Biology and AP Environmental Science course frameworks
- Prepare and facilitate laboratory activities, investigations, and other inquiry-based learning experiences
- Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging classroom and laboratory environment
- Assess student learning and provide timely, meaningful feedback
- Support students in developing the knowledge and skills necessary for success on the AP examinations
- Collaborate with science department colleagues, the student support team, and other faculty members to meet students’ academic needs
- Communicate clearly and regularly with students, families, and school leadership
- Participate in relevant school-wide initiatives, meetings, and events
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental science, education, or a related field required
- Master’s degree and/or teaching license preferred
- Previous high school science teaching experience preferred
- Experience teaching AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, or other advanced science courses strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of biology, environmental science, laboratory procedures, and laboratory safety
- Familiarity with College Board course frameworks and AP instructional practices preferred
- Ability to provide rigorous, engaging instruction to students with a range of learning needs
- Strong organizational, writing, and communication skills
- Passion for working collaboratively to instill in students a lifelong love of learning
Pay rate is commensurate with other independent schools in the Midwest.
